Everything you need to know about AKINA and our products. Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about AKINA, our approach to bioactive skincare, and the ingredients we work with.

What sets AKINA apart from conventional skincare?

AKINA is developed with a focus on long-term skin health. We work with high concentrations of bioactive botanical ingredients and intentionally simple formulations, where every ingredient serves a clear purpose.

Instead of fillers and superficial solutions, we formulate exclusively with ingredients that actively work together with the skin’s own processes. The result is skincare that not only feels good in the moment, but delivers visible and lasting improvements over time.

At AKINA, our ambition is to offer the skin a truly bioactive experience — not just a surface-level, hydrating effect.

What does bioactive mean?

Bioactive compounds in plants are naturally occurring metabolites that have a biological effect on the skin.

One example is tamanu oil, which is included in Radiant Matter at a concentration of 16%. Tamanu contains the compound calophyllolide, known for calming redness and irritation, improving the appearance of post-breakout marks, helping reduce the occurrence of breakouts, and supporting a clearer, more balanced complexion over time.

Another example is our Japanese tsubaki oil, which is known to inhibit the activity of the enzyme MMP-1 — an enzyme responsible for collagen degradation in the skin. By working with this mechanism, tsubaki helps support skin firmness and elasticity over time.

We formulate with ingredients that actively work in collaboration with the skin’s own processes, supporting its long-term health rather than offering only surface-level effects.

Why does AKINA work with fewer, targeted ingredients?

Fewer ingredients allow us to work with higher, functional concentrations — creating formulations where every component serves a clear purpose and holds real significance for the skin’s health.

Are your products organic?

We prioritise organic raw materials where possible. Certain ingredients — such as natural minerals and clays — cannot be certified organic, as they are not agricultural crops.

Radiant Matter is composed of 97.3% organic ingredients. Clay Ceremony is composed of 48% organic ingredients.

Are your products vegan?

Yes. All AKINA products are 100% vegan and formulated without animal-derived ingredients.

Are your products cruelty-free?

Yes. AKINA products are cruelty-free and never tested on animals.

Are your products naturally scented?

AKINA products are naturally scented from their botanical ingredients only. No synthetic fragrance or essential oils are added.

Which skin types are AKINAs products suitable for?

AKINAs products are formulated to suit most skin types, including sensitive skin. As with all skincare, we recommend a patch test before first use, especially if you are prone to sensitivities. Our products does not contain essential oils.
